Are you looking to install a solar battery? This is great news, you're continuing your journey to make your home more sustainable. Depending on where you live in Australia, the Federal or State government might have a scheme or rebate that can help with your sustainable home upgrade.
Let’s take a look at each state.
Australian Capital Territory:
The ACT is currently running the ACT Next Gen Energy Storage battery rebate.
What is the ACT Next Gen Energy Storage Battery rebate: ACT households can access a rebate of $3,500 or 50% of the battery price - whichever is the lowest. To be eligible for a rebate, the battery system must be coupled with solar panels and connected to the electricity grid. For eligibility criteria, head to the ACT Next Gen Energy Storage program.
New South Wales:
There are currently no solar battery rebates available for NSW residents, however, NSW does provide a solar panel system rebate. Eligible low-income households can swap their energy rebate for a free 3kW solar panel system or energy-efficient home upgrades through the Energy Bill Buster scheme, you can read more about the program and eligibility here.
Northern Territory:
Northern Territory is currently running a rebate for households and businesses, known as the Home and Business Battery Scheme.
How much is the home battery rebate in the NT? Eligible homeowners can access a grant of $450 per kilowatt hour (kWh) of usable battery system capacity, up to a maximum grant of $6,000. You can see further information on eligibility and how to apply at the NT Government information page.
Queensland:
There are no current state rebate programs for batteries in Queensland.
South Australia:
The South Australian Government previously ran the Home Battery Scheme. Unfortunately, the Scheme has closed to new applications.
Tasmania:
Tasmania currently is running the Energy Saver Loan Scheme (sometimes referred to as ESLS).
What is the Energy Saver Loan Scheme: The scheme involves interest-free loans of up to $10,000 for eligible applicants to invest in energy-efficient products. Brighte is the official finance partner for the Energy Saver Loan Scheme, read more about the scheme here.
Victoria:
Victoria is currently running a solar battery rebate.
How much is the solar battery rebate in Victoria?: Eligible households can access a rebate of up to $2,950 for installing a solar battery. Victorian residents can also have their solar panel systems installed at the same time as the solar battery, meaning this rebate is available to eligible households and not just for existing homes with solar panels. For more information on the Solar Victoria rebate please see eligibility and application information.
Western Australia
Whilst the Western Australian government currently does not have any rebate programs for solar panels or batteries, they do offer payments for electricity that is exported back to the grid by households. This scheme is called Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme (DEBS).
