Watanobbi family completes its transition away from gas with a heat-pump hot-water system, thanks to the Home Energy Saver loan by Brighte

Meet Brett and Samara

“My name is Samara Ross and I live in Watanobbi.”

“I’m Brett Ross, and I live in Watanobbi.”

“We’re Samara and Brett, and we live in Watanobbi on the New South Wales Central Coast.”

Installing a heat-pump hot-water system

“We got a Home Energy Saver Loan to install our new heat-pump hot-water system.”

The couple found the application process simple and straightforward.

“The process to apply for the loan was really easy. We were able to do it within an hour on our computer by uploading the relevant documents.”

“We were approved for the loan quite quickly, so it was a very fast turnaround.”

Moving away from gas

“We wanted to apply for the Home Energy Saver Loan because we’re trying to get off gas. Once we get rid of the gas hot water and our gas cooktop, we’ll be able to completely switch off gas, which will save us quite a bit each week.”

“We wanted to convert our house so it could operate without gas.”

Making better use of solar

“It’s quite expensive to be on gas when we already have solar, so we wanted to upgrade the system and make the house more energy efficient.”

The couple had already removed their gas heating and were working towards making their home fully electric.

“We’ve already got rid of the gas heating, so this was one of our last steps to finish our electrification journey. We’ve got this and the induction cooktop, and then we’re done.”

More control over energy use

Brett monitors the household’s energy use through a home energy management system.

“I’ve got a Home Assistant integration in the home, so I can monitor all of my energy use throughout the day. With gas, it’s very difficult to do that. I get a bill once every three months, and it’s not quite as accurate.”

The new heat-pump hot-water system is also expected to help reduce the family’s energy costs.

“We think the hot-water heat pump is going to save us quite a bit of money over the year.”

A streamlined installation process

“Once the loan was approved, it was a very streamlined process. The contractor came out, completed the installation and helped us understand the system we had in place and how to use it effectively.”

“The whole process took under a week, from applying for the loan to having the installation completed. It was a really streamlined process to find the right installer.”

Looking forward to using the new system

“The most exciting thing about the new system is that we’ll be able to integrate it throughout our entire house and save some serious money on our monthly energy bills, especially during winter.”

Brett and Samara’s heat-pump installation is helping them move away from gas, make better use of their solar system and complete their transition to an all-electric home.
