The Tasmanian government have today officially opened the Energy Saver Loan Scheme to applications, supported by Brighte as exclusive finance and administration partner.

The program, launched in Hobart by Tasmanian Energy Minister Guy Barnett, aims to make energy efficiency more affordable for Tasmanians and help reduce the cost of energy bills.

Joining Minister Barnett, Brighte founder and CEO Katherine McConnell said the government backed program would help Tasmanians overcome the affordability barrier.

“This program is important because it helps people to pay over time, get energy efficient products sooner and start getting the benefits of the savings now."

“Forward looking governments are actively supporting households in a time of global energy volatility and this program is welcome step that will make a real difference.”

Under the Scheme, eligible Tasmanians will be able to access no interest loans of between $500 to $10,000 for a range of energy efficient investments, including:

  • Rooftop solar and battery storage systems;
  • Electric heating /cooling, hot water heat pumps, solar hot water heating; and
  • Building upgrades, in the form of window double glazing

Additional products such as energy efficient whitegoods and insulation would be available in future program phases.

Ms McConnell said a large range of potential suppliers had been identified and would be available for quotes.

“Brighte has a strong network of both locally and nationally accredited suppliers that can provide a range of competitive quotes to ensure your purchase is right for you,” she said.

“I encourage Tasmanians to visit our website, start getting quotes and commence their energy efficiency journey today."

“We’re thrilled Brighte’s sustainable homes platform is making energy savings easy for the people of Tasmania.”

Brighte’s sustainable homes platform is also used by the ACT Government, to administer their $150m Sustainable Household Scheme, which offers no interest loans for energy efficient investments.

The Energy Saver Loan Scheme is open to eligible households, residential landlords, small businesses and community organisations and will run for three years.

Fees, terms, conditions and lending criteria apply.
