The ACT Government today announced not-for-profit community groups operating in the ACT are eligible for zero-interest loans under the popular Sustainable Household Scheme

The Scheme, which is the ACT Government’s flagship climate policy, is exclusively administered by leading sustainable home platform Brighte

Officially launched in July last year, the program provides access to zero-interest loans between $2,000 to $15,000 to help Canberrans electrify their homes.

The Scheme – which has been rolled out in three phases – initially launched with loans for solar panels, battery storage, EV charging systems, hot-water heat pumps, electric heating or cooling systems and electric cooktops.

In December 2021, loans were rolled out for new and used electric vehicles.

Community group eligibility is the third phase of the $150 million program.

Katherine McConnell, CEO and founder of Brighte, says the participation of community organisations will help to further drive down emissions in the Territory.

“We’re excited to support the ACT Government in welcoming community groups who want to bring benefits back to their communities by making their organisations sustainable, saving money for their communities, and also reducing their carbon impact.”

“At Brighte, we are guided by our ambition to reduce carbon emissions. The key to reducing emissions from our homes and our offices is to start accessing the power of the sun.”

“Solar and electrification can alleviate the pressure of rising bills and help community groups mitigate their impact on the planet, so that they can continue serving the communities around them sustainably.”

To date, the ACT Scheme has received significant interest from the community with more than 7,000 households having applied for a loan to make their home more sustainable.

Customers can visit the Brighte website to access accredited providers. To be eligible for the purchase, community groups must be a not-for-profit community organisation that operates in the ACT and is listed on one or both of the following registers:
